When I first moved to Alta, Wyoming about nine years ago my daughter informed me, “We live in a snowglobe!” I first learned to knit in my snowglobe. Sitting in my knitting nest, a couch nestled in a bay window in my bedroom, I would snuggle up with blankets and a space heater knitting until the kids came home from school (any many days long after!)
Knits and purls were all I dared do. I would venture out once or twice a week to the cozy local knit shop and marvel over the sample knits there. Fair Isle, cables, socks, mitts (with thumbs!) all seemed like impossible miracles to me. But I was determined. Armed with pattern books and yummy yarns from Blue Sky Fibers, Rowan and Noro I persisted until I learned what I never dreamed I could.
All in my perfect snowglobe.
The Snowglobe Hat is a fun knit in fingering weight yarn. This beautiful cabled pattern is embellished with either mini bobbles or beads, and has instructions for a snug fitting beanie or a slouchy beanie, whichever suits your fancy. The sample is knit with Handmaiden Yarns glorious Mini Maiden, 50% wool/50% silk. You can find the yarn for the hat here.

Bless my sweet daughter-in-law, Kia Boissiere, for modeling in the freezing snow!
